alpha-PVP was permanently placed into Schedule I in the United States on March 1, 2017. It is illegal to manufacture, buy, possess, or distribute (sell, trade or give) without a DEA license.

alpha-PVP was first temporarily placed in Schedule I on Jan 28, 2014. This emergency scheduling lasted two years, until Jan 28, 2016. On Mar 4, 2016, the DEA extended the emergency scheduling of 4-MEC, 4-MePPP, a-PVP, butylone, pentedrone, pentylone, 4-FMC, 3-FMC, naphyrone, and a-PBP by one year, until March 2017.
